Festspielhaus St. Pölten chooses DiGiCo SD12
The Festspielhaus St. Pölten, which opened in 1997, is a cultural milestone for the Lower Austria region and has developed over its 25-year history into a leading venue with one of the largest stages for dance and music in all of Austria. Its artistic range spans from orchestral and chamber music to dance, jazz, and gala events.
To support this vast diversity with top-level audio technology on an international scale, the Festspielhaus—under chief sound engineer Andreas Dröscher and sound engineer Bernd Neuwirth—has relied for years on the digital mixing console solutions from DiGiCo. Their journey began with a D5 Live, then SD8 and SD10, and most recently the latest members in the sound control room—the two SD12 consoles, each with 96 input channels.
The upgrade to digital SD consoles was prompted by the installation of a new fiber optic ring in the building. Since then, the SD12 consoles have worked in networked conjunction with the other SD consoles and fully equipped SD stage racks (Mic/Line, AES, Dante), offering in-house sound engineers and guest technicians all the benefits of modern signal management in everyday practice, including rack sharing, tie-line patching, and gain tracking.
For Andreas Dröscher, the compact SD12 impresses above all with its two 15” screens, flexible channel strip workflow, and comprehensive snapshots. The experienced sound engineer is also convinced by the excellent audio quality and signal fidelity, as well as the fast setup times made possible by the Optocore connections and templates.
When asked which three features of the SD12 he could no longer do without, he didn’t hesitate: the ripple function for automatic routing of subsequent channels, the multiband dynamics processing, and the gang function for channel-group processing.
